The format of the exam is fully virtual (online), in two parts:
1. Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) part – 110 questions
The MCQ part is scheduled for April 30, 2027 and will be delivered online, in collaboration with the commercial examination provider CYIM, with remote proctoring through ProctorU. Candidates are required to verify minimum equipment requirements (Equipment requirements). Passing the MCQ part is essential in order to progress to the SOA part of the examination.
2. Structured Oral Assessment (SOA) – 6 stations
The SOA is scheduled for two days: June 21, 2027 AND June 22, 2027 and will be delivered online. Only candidates who have successfully passed the MCQ part will be eligible to sit the SOA part of the examination.
For logistical reasons, the number of candidates that can be accommodated in the ECMGG is limited. Priority will be given to candidates from UEMS member countries. Non-medical graduates are
not eligible to sit the ECMGG.
The examination has been designed to be suitable for trainees in the late stages of their training, i.e. in the final 1-2 years prior to being appointed as a fully trained Medical Geneticist. .

WHY TAKE THE ECMGG?
The European Certificate in Medical Genetics and Genomics (ECMGG) is intended to be the main knowledge-based assessment tool for Clinical / Medical Genetics and Genomics training across Europe, establishing world class-leading standards in the specialty throughout all European countries.
In these UEMS member countries, the ECMGG is recognised as the main knowledge assessment, replacing, or equivalent to, a similar national assessment:
• Belgium
• Ireland
• Malta
• United Kingdom
